l'Atelier Permanent
Renovation strategy social housing
A feasibility study in which several scenarios are designed to renovate and re-develop 535 social housing units at Avenue de Roovere - Edmond Machtens, Sint-Jans-Molenbeek in a participatory way with the residents.
BC architects created a non-profit association to involve the inhabitants in this renovation strategy. The non-profit association, L'Atelier Permanent, was located in the former concierge's office at Avenue De Roovere 22, 1080 Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, from March 2021 to March 2022. This association is a legal and social tool for experts and inhabitants. It is present on the site and ensures an architectural permanence inspired by the artistic residences. The permanent association is a new way of conceiving the urban renewal mission in a more democratic way. It has proven itself over the past 20 years in many European countries and in the United States.
